Frequently Asked Questions...
What is the best harmonica key for the following types of music that I play (listed below)?
My old harmonica that I normally use finally broke and I have decided to invest in a Suzuki Promaster valved harmonica.
The music that I normally play is blues type rock and folk rock.
Normally I play a lot of music from Bob Dylan, The Beatles, and Neil Young. I also like to play a lot of the newer Christian music (not the slower old stuff).
What would be the best key of harmonica that I could get that would cover all of this? Or what is the best key overall that would cover the majority of music that is out there (ie: if you could only have one harmonica key, what would it be?)?
I am not a beginner, but I have never really owned a lot of different keys so I want some ideas from those who might have used all 12.....
Answer:
The best blues harp you can get your hands on is the Blues Harp which is the ONLY harp that you can actually bend the notes and get 1/4 tones out of it. Not even a chromatic can do this. Blues harp are noted for that feature and is widely used among rock and blues band. Best keys are C-G-A-D-Bb
